The Greenway Santa Cruz initiative was born from a simple yet powerful realization: our coastal communities are built for connection, yet dominated by vehicle traffic. In 2021, a group of local urban planners, environmental advocates, and cycling enthusiasts came together to advocate for active transportation infrastructure that reflects the ecological values of Santa Cruz County.
Our Mission
Our mission is to foster a healthy, connected, and sustainable Santa Cruz County by supporting the development of a continuous, multi-use trail network corridor. We aim to make walking, running, and wheeling safe, everyday transit options for everyone.
Our Vision
We envision a community where clean, accessible green corridors seamlessly link residential neighborhoods, commercial hubs, beaches, and parks. Through local policy advocacy, community events, and public trail mapping, we strive to establish a national model for sustainable local transportation and eco-tourism.
What We Focus On
- Infrastructure Advocacy: Collaborating with county transit planning authorities to prioritize active transport funding.
- Eco-Tourism: Encouraging tourists to visit Santa Cruz via regional rail-trails, bike networks, and sustainable transit.
- Community Health: Providing safe networks where children, seniors, and active families can exercise safely away from highway noise and exhaust.
